DCAL - Hardware
With our three station network, we can divide the operations into three basic steps: Mark-in, Racking, and Pickup.
Using this sample system, you can account for an item at three different points, this can be very useful in preventing an item from getting lost, and the ability to inform the customer of the status of their orders. This also eliminates user congestion of one computer, allowing each employee to manage his or her own station.
MARK-IN and PICKUP
In order to get a ticket into the system, you must enter it. In DCAL, we call this Mark-in. This process is simple. A worker would select a customer (or add them to the system's database) and begin describing the garment or garments to the computer using the touchscreen menu system. The customer may wait for this process to be completed or may simply drop off their garments and receive a front counter slip as a receipt. Upon completing the ticket, the DCAL software would print two copies of the ticket and any desired tags. The same station could be used at pick-up. In our sample network, we have three stations, one station for Mark-In one for Racking, and another for Pickup. These stations could have cash drawers and barcode scanners.
RACKING
Once a garment is cleaned, it needs to be placed on a rack or a carousel. DCAL uses barcode scanners to make this process fast and efficient. The racking station would typically be located in the plant away from the counter. In our sample network, we only need one rack station. It would include the computer and a barcode scanner.
For a moderately sized shop, this sample three-station network would provide great service and efficiency.
